8 Nt Glacier Wonderland + Denali Cruisetour
Prince William Sound lies just south of the rugged Chugach Mountains - a
breathtaking maze of forested islands, glacier-carved fjords and wildlife-filled
waterways. This area is every bit as spectacular as the traditional Inside
Passage, but far less traveled, giving you a hint of what the world looked like
after the last Ice Age. No one word, no single photograph can capture the natural miracle that is Denali National Park. It is home to 20,320-foot Mt. McKinley and a fascinating assemblage of wildlife. Discover wilderness at its best on this fully escorted cruisetour.
Ports of Call: Anchorage, Whittier, College Fjord, Esther Passage, Cordove, Chenega Glacier, Knight Island, Whittier
Land Stops: Anchorage, Denali National Park, Fairbanks

Description |
Day 1 Anchorage/Whittier |
Travel from Anchorage via motorcoach to Whittier. Your route is along beautiful
Turnagain Arm, and through tunnels under the Chugach Mountain Range. Keep watch
for the sure-footed Dall sheep that nibble grass on the steep cliffs overhead.
Arrive in Whittier, where the crew welcomes you aboard the Spirit of Columbia.
Once you’ve settled into your stateroom, come up on deck and meet your fellow
travelers and crew during a bon voyage celebration. The ship departs for
seldom-visited areas of Prince William Sound, starting with a visit to
Blackstone Glacier in Blackstone Bay. |
Day 2 College Fjord & Esther Passage |
Wake up near the face of Harvard Glacier at the very end of College Fjord.
Dozens of glaciers of all types pour from the mountains to the sea here – a
landscape straight out of the Ice Age. The most impressive sight you can hope to
see is skyscraper-sized pinnacles of ice plunging from the glaciers into the
water. Continue on to narrow Esther Passage, a waterway only small ships can
navigate. Watch for orcas, sea otters, and bald eagles here; your Captain knows
where the best sightings will be found. In Eaglek Bay you may welcome onboard a
local oyster farmer, who will share tales of her unique life in the wilderness. |
Day 3 Cordova |
Make a port call at tiny Cordova. This fishing village, which is inaccessible by
highway, has become world famous for its Copper River Salmon. These delicious,
oil-rich fish are caught nearby in the pristine delta of the Copper River. An
included sightseeing tour of Cordova highlights area history, including a stop
at the delta of the mighty Copper River. If you have energy to burn, there are
optional wilderness tours including sea kayaking, hiking, and river rafting. |
Day 4 Chenega Glacier and Knight Island |
Today explore southwest Prince William Sound, where sculpted wilderness islands
lie offshore from the craggy mountains of the Kenai Peninsula. Narrow Icy Bay
leads toward a stunning glacier experience at the head of the fjord. Watch for
seals on the icebergs and mountain goats on the cliff faces. Later, enjoy
“gunkholing” around the nearby islands - a term for poking around the next
corner just to see what’s there. |
Day 5 Whittier/Anchorage |
After a cruise past a kittiwake colony, disembark the Spirit of Columbia at
Whittier. Transfer to a motorcoach for your trip via Turnagain Arm back to
Anchorage. Sightseeing includes the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Dinner and overnight at the Sheraton. |

Day 6 Anchorage/Denali |
Meet your Exploration Leader who will accompany you to Denali Park and
Fairbanks. Board a motorcoach to travel north to Talkeetna, where you will board
deluxe domed railcars to continue your journey toward Denali Park. Sweeping
views are everywhere as you cross over Hurricane Gulch and Broad Pass. Stay
overnight at a comfortable Denali hotel. |
Day 7 Denali - Tundra Wilderness Tour |
Denali’s wild landscape is the natural habitat of bears, Dall sheep, moose, and
many other mammals. Watch for views of Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in
North America. You will have time for some optional adventures such as
flightseeing by helicopter or bush plane, whitewater rafting and float trips,
horseback riding, and more. Dinner will be enjoyed at the lively Music of Denali
dinner theatre. |
Day 8 Denali to Fairbanks via Motorcoach |
Drive north to Fairbanks, just over 100 miles from the Arctic Circle.
Sightseeing features a delightful riverboat excursion on the Chena and Tanana
Rivers, University of Alaska Museum, and lunch. Enjoy a farewell dinner at
Pike’s Waterfront Lodge. |
Day 9 Fairbanks |
To the Fairbanks airport for your
flight home, full of memories to share with your family and friends. |
